What are We Consulting on
We first consulted on an issues and options document in early 2019 as part of the first stage in preparing a New Local Plan for Southend. Building on the valuable feedback you provided we are now once again seeking your comments and views on ‘Refining the Plan Options’ which looks in more detail at possible options for preparing a new strategy and plan for the Borough and identifies specific sites that could contribute to meeting future needs.
This consultation focuses especially on four different strategies for providing for housing growth and how effective they are in providing for the level of housing that the Government says we need to consult on.
In addition to Housing we are asking for people’s views on other important topics such as the Infrastructure, Green Space, Economy, Transport and the Airport. We would also appreciate your feedback on the work we have done on different Neighbourhoods within the Borough.

This Consultation aims to:
- Identify different ways of meeting the Borough’s housing and job requirements;
- Provide more detail on the characteristics and growth capacity of different neighbourhoods;
- Seek your views on a number of other important topics.

This consultation provides a second opportunity to make your views known on preparing the Local Plan
You may like to consider the following general questions:

Have we missed anything?
Do we need to collect any further information?
Is there anything we need to change?
We will be contacting everyone who has told us they are interested in the future planning of Southend, this includes, individuals, businesses, Leigh Town Council, interest groups and agencies.

What Happens next
Comments and views made at this stage will help shape a Preferred Approach document which will be subject to further public consultation next year and in 2023 when the Plan is then submitted to be examined by an independent Inspector.
